Welcome

Room 227

Welcome to room 227!   My name is Mrs. Kramer and I am looking forward to this upcoming school year and my fifteenth year teaching first grade at Bay School.  I am looking forward to getting to know everyone, and together, I know we can make this a fantastic year.   I wanted to take a moment to explain our classroom procedures, behavioral expectations and academic expectations for this school year, which you can find below.

Classroom Procedures:   Please come to school on time every day.   We get stared with a math review page right away, so being on time is important.  Once complete, we move into reading groups.   I am very excited about our new reading program, Fountas and Pinnell, and can’t wait to share it with each of you.  This year we will be working with envision math, and reasoning minds.   Our writing program will be Lucy Calkins.   For lesson with science and history they well be done through our SEAL program.  Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday and brought back to school everyday.    Homework will include reading with a parent, spelling words and any work that was not finished during the day.

Behavioral Expectations:  First grades are expected to follow classroom rules as posted, and school rules as listed in the Bay School Code of Conduct.    In my classroom, I like to reward students with individual and group praise, rewards, special privileges and team points.

Academic Expectations:  Grading reflects both written and oral work along with teacher observation.   Reports cards are issued three times and year and reflect achievement as wells as effort.   Conferences will take place in the middle of the fist trimester and other times if needed.  Certain skills listed on the report card are not applicable for first grade and may not be graded until the later part of the year.

I know this is  a lot of information, so we will be also going over much of it during Back to School Night.   If you have any questions please let me know.   I look forward to an amazing school year.
