Meet the Principal

Dr. Yearns was born and raised in the Bay Area, living for multiple years in both Oakland and Berkeley. After graduating from Berkeley High School, she attended the University of Pennsylvania where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies with a minor in Afro-American Studies. After graduation, she returned home to teach for Oakland Unified School District while she obtained both her general education and special education teaching credentials. In a desire to change outcomes for children beyond only her classroom, she went back to school and earned her Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Administrative Credential from California State University East Bay. After working as an administrator for several years, she again went back to school and was awarded her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Throughout her career, she has worked as a general education teacher, special education teacher, district-level special education administrator, assistant principal, and has served as the principal for Bay School since the 2014-2015 school year.

In her free time, Dr. Yearns enjoys traveling, reading, enjoying music, and spending time with her family. Her travels have taken her all over our country (35 states and Washington D.C.), Canada, Mexico, Egypt, St. Lucia, and Brazil, but the Bay Area will always be home.
