Curriculum

STRATEGIC PLAN OBJECTIVE:

All schools will offer all students the opportunity to learn the core curriculum and ensure that all students receive a foundation of academic skills. All students needing intervention or assistance will receive it. Ongoing communication and networking must occur around the issues of curricular planning and implementation.

CORE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The core program consists of Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies as well as Math, Science, Health, visual and performing arts, and physical education. Our Commitment is to provide all students access to a challenging comprehensive curriculum where all can succeed. We have a commitment to foster smaller learning environments which nurture relationships with peers, significant adults, and the larger world. We have a commitment to provide a network of support that promotes the development of physically and emotionally healthy lifestyles. Students will be heterogeneously grouped. All identified ELL students will be served by CLAD trained staff and support from bilingual instructional assistants. All identified Special Education students are supported through SLP/RSP/SDC programs at the site.

ASSESSMENT DATA:

A variety of sources will be used to gather data on student performance. Recent CAASPP scores will be used, as well as writing samples, Running Records, Measures of Academic Progress scores and other forms of assessment.

STATEMENT OF NEED AS A RESULT OF DATA ANALYSIS:

There is a need to improve student performance in Reading, Language, Writing, Number Sense, and mathematical reasoning. We are also working to enhance student ability to comprehend, interpret, and analyze text in the content areas.
